Fox News Relocates Portland to the Oregon Coast....

Fox News may be fair and balanced, but I think someone in the DFW office (and again in the national office) needs to learn to read a map... they just moved Portland, OR quite a few miles west.

Screenshots just in case they edit and deny...

Valour IT fundraiser is back....

The Valour-IT Veterans Day fundraiser is a friendly competition among blogs and will run through
November 27, 2008 (Thanksgiving).

Project Valour-IT, in memory of SFC William V. Ziegenfuss, helps provide voice-controlled/adaptive laptop computers and other technology to support Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines recovering from hand wounds and other severe injuries.  Technology supplied includes:

  • Voice-controlled Laptops - Operated by speaking into a microphone or using other adaptive technologies, they allow the wounded to maintain connections with the rest of the world during recovery.
  • Wii Video Game Systems - Whole-body game systems increase motivation and speed recovery when used under the guidance of physical therapists in therapy sessions.
  • Personal GPS - Handheld GPS devices build self-confidence and independence by compensating for short-term memory loss and organizational challenges related to TBI and severe PTSD.

Restaurant Review: Apizza in Stayton

Third update (10/13/2008): Discovered I was still getting hits for my blog, even though a system trash had taken it out. So here it is again. Among the new things at Apizza, they are now open from 10:30am until 9:30pm. They have several lunch specials, including multiple types of lasagna and several toasted sub sandwiches. They've also introduced a smaller (and much less expensive) sized pizza - I think it's about 10" across.

A tale of two movies...

Yesterday (Friday, Oct 3) I realized that it was the opening day for the movie "An American Carol." Laura had seen reviews of it and wasn't interested in seeing it - it's not her style of comedy. However, "Fireproof" was playing in the same theater and the schedules worked out that we could watch one and then the other. Okay, so we were at Santiam 11 from 6:45pm to Midnight. It was a Friday night, so other than Trouble the cat, who cares?

Mining the rifle range @ Camp Withycombe

The term "mining" can have two meanings - in the industrial meaning, it indicates removing something of value from on or below the Earth's (or water's) surface. In it's normal military meaning, it means inserting things that blow up on or below the Earth's (or water's) surface.

Sometimes... the two get reversed.

The current financial crisis...

The stage was set by Jimmy Carter (and the Democratic Congress) (late 70s), the curtain was opened by Bill Clinton (and the Democratic Congress)(1995), Fannie Mae was the orchestra - and poor reviews by the Bush Adminstration (2003) and John McCain (2005-7) were ignored.

Based on campaign contributions, Fannie Mae owns Barak Obama lock, stock, and change barrel. See the video in the full version for more info - hit pause if it's going past too quickly.

I've been working on my railroad....

Or at least on the locomotives. I "shopped" three new GP38s and my non-sound MP15DC to change their markings to WPRR and replace the GP38s decoders with TCS A4X boards.

Debunking Sarah Palin Rumors

Flat out, this is the best site to find out what sort of rumors, stories and smears are being spread about Sarah Palin (and her family) and the debunking of those deserving it (some are self-ridiculing without assistance).

Don't believe what you hear in the mainstream media, folks - they aren't being very good at cleaning up behind themselves.

Note: Site just got hit with an Instalanche.

I'm too young for heart failure...

I was trying to upload a very (1GB) file to the photo gallery today and to do so I played a bit with some PHP settings on allowed file sizes and timeouts. And this website would no longer allow me to log myself in. Eeep. Went back in to reverse the changes. Restarted the webserver service/daemon to activate them. And got errors instead. Ay, yi, yi. Manually zapped a couple of the errors. Went into the automated stuff and activated a couple modules that were, for some reason, turned off. And it came back up. Whew.
